Observations

Skied from Aspendell to Grass Lake Trail. Blue bird day, lots of wind affected snow, but also some good skiing in trees and below the N. Lake road going down toward Cardinal Village. Surface hoar present in the valley bottom between N. Lake hiker parking lot and N. Lake Campground. Dug a pit looking for rain crust, didn't find any (see attached pit profile). Biggest hazard are the basketball-plus sized snow blobs occasionally falling out of the trees (really!).

One notable avalanche observation is that the chute that destroyed the North Lake Pack Station cabin in 1986 ran across the cabin site during the last storm cycle a couple of weeks ago, presumably on 1/9.
