Observation Details

Observation Date:
January 18, 2023
Submitted:
January 18, 2023
Zone or Region:
Rock Creek
Activity:
XC Skiing/Snowshoeing
Location:
Position is where I took picture, avalanche was to south, across from drainage.

Observations

Small avalanche (at least compared to the ones after the storm before last) that appears to have split towards bottom. Past this point the snowpack became much firmer in places and in some areas all the last storm's snow was blown away (I could see my tracks from 5 days ago). Terrain I was on was no more than 20 degrees at steepest and seemed stable. Avalanche continued some distance down the drainage (hidden in attached picture)

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Media

picture of avalanche, which continued for some distance down the lower drainage (not shown in picture)
