Zone or Region:
Rock Creek
Activity:
Skiing/Snowboarding
Location:
Rock Creek near Pine Grove CG

Observations

We toured from the sno-park along the road to Pine Grove CG, then did a short climb to 9500’ on the WNW-facing slopes across the creek. On the slopes above the CG, we stayed on a subtle ridge in a band of pines and on grades about 30 deg or less. We did not take any detailed observations along our route. Wind transport was significant in all exposed clearings on the valley floor, and was evident at higher elevations from huge plumes off of the ridges and peaks above.

Comments:
Far NE shoulder of Mt Starr (1st chute from N end of ridge). Maybe D2 or D3, ~1500’ run as far as we could see. Appeared to be due to wind loading.
