Observations

We toured the treed slope west of Red Lake.  Our objective was to get a better overall understanding of the snowpack after the most recent storm event (Dec 10th).  During the approach recent avalanche activity was obvious in the Red Lake bowl and a large whumpf was felt while on the up track.  A snowpit revealed:

*Height of snow= 152cm
*DEC 1st PWL buried 110cm deep
*CT12 Q2 at 130 cm and ECTP14 RP at 130cm. The fracture point was a slight density change within new snow.
*The PWL was unreactive to CT or ECTP tests. In the future a Deep Tap Test or Propagation Saw Test could be used to better understand the nature of the buried PWL.
