Observations

Toured in the lower Mammoth Rock Bowl area this afternoon. We dug two full pits on a N facing slope of 15-20 degrees at ~8,800'.
-Both pits revealed a largely right-side-up snowpack above the December 1st layer
-HS=170 with 60-65 of storm snow
-Last week's storm snow primarily consists of rounds, with sintering evident at the base of the layer
-Previous facet layers above and below the December 1st interface have begun to round, though the basal facets are still relatively large (>1 mm) and angular
-We obtained results of CT11 BRK and ECTX in one pit, and CTX and ECTN23 PC in the other pit
--Both failures were at an interface of firmer, wind-compacted snow (1F+) and softer snow within the new storm deposit

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported
