Observations

Went for a little romp in the June Backcountry and surface conditions were soft in the sheltered areas. As we moved up out of the trees the wind had textured the surface. Overall coverage is good and its looking like a great start to winter.

Basal Facets were present at 9600 feet on the Apron of the Negatives. These were down 145 centimeters and were 20 centimeters thick. Total snow Depth(HS) was 165 cm.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Media

Negatives Snow Coverage
Valley Fog over Mono Lake
Flagging at ridgetop above the Negatives. This was the most intense transport of the day.

Advanced Observations

Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Persistent Slab
Comments:
D2.5 R3 Though the likelihood of triggering these is decreasing, the structure still exists and an avalanche on these layers would have significant consequences.
Observed Avalanche Problem #2:
Wind Slab
Comments:
Less transport was observed today than was expected. So windslabs were likely small and isolated.
