Key Points

  • Took to the trees today and lower elevations to surf surface facets and find something soft. Ski penetration averaged around 5cm on shady, non-sun affected surfaces above 8600ft.
  • Melt Freeze surfaces dominate below 8600ft and wherever the sun has been impacting the snow pack. These surfaces make for quick and good skinning and even more fun schussing back down. Even after an extended dry period, gliding out on the dense settled snow on nearly flat terrain is a sweet advantage out here in the maritime climate instead of a shallow, facet factory as I’ve spent plenty of time on in other interior ranges in the country.
  • Not any ground breaking discoveries out there, its stable, and will continue to be so under forecasted short term weather.
  • A high haze diffused the sun light today and inhibited significant warming of sunny aspects in the area I was today.
  • Snow depths diminishing on easterly and southerly aspects ~35-60cm with upwards of 120cm on northerly aspects above 9000ft in sheltered trees.
  • Calm to very light southwest winds prevailed this morning.
  • 42degF @ 21130am @ 9600ft
