Key Points

  • Toured from 8000′ – 9,500′ mostly on easterly to northerly facing terrain
  • Very cloudy day with no sunshine, calm winds with occasional light gusts over small ridge top at 9,500′, and air temp of 37°F at 10am.
  • No signs of instability here or any indications that instability might exist anywhere else today based on the full cloud cover.
  • Breakable melt-freeze crust with fairly large melt-freeze grains in flatish terrain at lower elevations.
  • Above ~8500′ on northerly facing wind-sheltered slopes, soft faceted surface snow predominated making for smooth fast bouncy and fun turns.
