Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Widely variable snow depth near and above treeline. Snow depth ranged from 10 cm (or less) to over 2 meters deep, sometimes within a very short distance. Deeper covered areas have a strong and thick mid-pack over basal facets. Upper most snow (approximately 40 cm) new snow to decomposing grains but nice skiing. Tests showed a propensity for propagation at about 25 - 30cm down from the surface. It failed on mix of decomposing grains and Surface Hoar. This also was clearly highlighted in shovel shear tests. A snowpit dug a short distance away was much more inconclusive.
