Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured out to the trees above TJ Lake to see conditions after 12"+ of new snow on the night of 1/15 and hunt for buried surface hoar.

1144: elevation 9170', NNE aspect, moderately dense trees. HS=135cm. CTE4 25cm from surface in new snow. CTH20 55cm from surface in old consolidated snow from before 1/14.  Did not find buried surface hoar.

1358: elevation 9921', W aspect, wind-sheltered area with widely spaced trees. HS=175cm. 35cm F hard new snow, 20 cm 1F hard snow from 1/14, older snow was 1F to pencil hard over <1mm facets which started at 115cm from surface.  Did 2 ECT tests with similar results: ECTN5 in new snow, ECTN21 in old (pre-1/14) snow. Again, did not observe a buried surface hoar layer.
