Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured with AIARE Level 1 group to North Facing treed slopes on Smuggler's to make snowpack observations and to track surface conditions in advance of incoming storm system. As is the case in most other parts of the Lakes Basin, sheltered north facing trees have a generally strong snowpack structure with the rain crust (found down 50cm in this location) decomposing with few facets below it. Surface conditions are mostly near surface facets, which have been providing high-quality skiing though will be interested to see how the new snow bonds to this surface layer.
