Sierra Mountain Center AIARE Level 1 group toured below Mammoth Rock to get general snowpack impressions and look for the recently formed wind slabs in specific mid-elevation terrain.

Height of snow average is only 40-50cm in most of the observed area, down from 70 in locations probed last week. Our group dug in a lee slope with 75cm HS.

Shovel tilt and compression tests revealed a P+ hard wind slab 5-10cm thick on the surface. Test results: STE, CT4 SP Q1 (x many), ECTP4 SP Q1 all down 8cm on 1mm faceted crystals.
