Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Timeline: 01.09.2019

1. 1145: Started tour.  Sky obscured, S-1 precip, falling as graupel, winds L from SW.
 
2. 1200: Observed SS-N-R1-D1-S avalanche.  Likely occurred between 07-08 Jan.  N aspect, at ~ 10.5K’, ~37 deg slope based off map study.  Estimate crown width 15m, flank length 15m.  Likely wind slab but hard to tell in flat light from a distance.       
 
3. 1230: Precip rate increases to S1, still falling as graupel.  Thin layer of graupel accumulating on surface along entire route.
 
4. 1300: Dug full snow profile on NE aspect, 10.3K’, 29 deg slope. HS 185cm; CTM 16 RP down 73cm and CTM 19 RP down 50cm.  Found buried facets down 137cm to the ground. 
 
5. 1430: Precip increased to S2, changed from graupel to new snow, winds increased to M from the SW.  Blowing snow observed. 
 
6. 1515: Completed tour.  Wind slab present along route but no shooting cracks observed.
