Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

-Very windy all day, snowing moderately most of the day until mid afternoon.  ~10-16" of new snow by 1pm, hard to tell exactly how much fell as wind was felt just about everywhere.

-Some shooting cracks up to a meter long in steep areas above 9,000'.

-Strong SW wind at ridgetop, swirling and variable in lower elevations.  VERY strong at 8000' across the flats, burrying some cars that got stuck on Sherwin Creek Rd quite thouroughly.

-Temperatures dropping throughout day, quite cold by mid afternoon.

-Various results with Handpits, but mostly failing in new snow with easy force, and not too planar.  Of note, in areas with firm old snow surface, handshears were not failing at this surface, but further up in the new snow.

-Ski cut across starting zone of main chute resulted in shooting cracks but no failure.  If a hard turn was made, seemed like that probably would have gotten chute to slide.  Stayed in the lower angle old growth trees (low density snow).
