More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured into the alpine outside of June Mountain ski area to assess the Wind Slabs and new snow adhesion.

No slides noted in the BC on the drive down from Mammoth. Further you move east of the Crest impressive loss of snowpack noted below ~8500'. 50 % loss or greater in many locations.  Air temp at the saddle below the Hourglass (10:30, 9500'), -1.3C (29.6F). Clear skis, light northeast winds, light wind transport along N - NE ridges above 10500'. Hand shears moderate, Q2. 5 to 15 cm (2-6") below the choke. 4F over Fist +. No cracking or whoopfing, no reactive. No visible slab avalanche activity in the surrounding BC. Air Temp at summit (11, 200' -2.4C)24F @ 12;30. Hand shears at the top of Negative 1(NE aspect, 11200'), easy moderate to moderate, Q2. 5 to 15 cm (2-6"). Test slopes yielded minor surface sloughing. Melt/freeze crust forming on WNW-W-SW-S-SE-E aspects up to ~9700, possibly higher on more sheltered more southerly aspects. Degree of crusting depends on duration of solar exposure. Numerous small roller balls on sheltered Easterly slopes below 9700' by 200PM. From 9000' down to the highway snow is supportive but surface condition is highly dependent on aspect. 5 to 15 cm of decomposing new snow or early melt/freeze.
