Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured up the Hemlock Ridge today and looked at a variety of aspects.  Snowpack was variable depth between 0cm and close to 100cm in places where wind had previously drifted snow.  The surface snow was getting hit with temperature and radiation as we toured.  Transitioning between sun and shade at that elevation led to a lot of snow sticking to the skins.(See photo).  In a sheltered area we dug profiles and saw the weak structure still intact at 8840 feet on a NW Aspect.  The Melt Forms Here were thinner than elsewhere with just 3cm on the surface and winter snow below. That being said, the warm temperatures are trying to impact our entire snowpack and I think ultimately that is for the better when it comes to the faceted snow we had earlier this season.  Hopefully we have a snowpack left in a few weeks.

Snowpack photos:
Skin track blown over with recent (in the last week) wind deposits.
Alternating between sun and shade with well travelled skins is a bit annoying right now.

More detailed information about the weather:

In addition to digging today we stopped to take a series of weather observations.  One on a sheltered north aspect and one on a south aspect.  Pretty big differences in some ways, but all roads lead to warming and radiation impacting the surface snow.
