Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

We found isolated pockets of wind drifted snow in places along our tour up to 5cm deep, which actually provided for decent skiing in places on the descent.  Although I did not get any results from compression tests in my test pit, students 20 meters away on an aspect that tilted slightly more east got CTM SC results 18cm down on facets near a crust.  I found a 1cm crust on the surface and another down 38cm's.  There was softer faceted snow found near both crusts.

More detailed information about the weather:

When we began our tour at the Mammoth Rock Trailhed at 1PM, the temperature was below freezing with a light wind out of the NE.  There was a trace of new snow at the trailhead with overcast skies.  By the time we reached our high point of 9,450' in Mammoth Rock Bowl, the winds were still out of the NE but had increased to strong with extreme gusts at times.  We witnessed blowing snow from when we left the road to our high point.
