More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured from the Tamarack TH to Mammoth Pass, around the NW end of the Mammoth Crest, up onto the crest from the West, then over to Red Cone, down the bowl and trees to Horseshoe Lake.  Much sastrugi and some windboard on the crest, many varieties of snow lower down, mostly soft snow in the trees.  No indications of instability noted.  North facing features have been really stripped hard, with lots of rocks exposed.  Red Cone Bowl was a nightmare of 6" tall sastrugi and excavated ski tracks.  The weather was sunny and comfortable with surprisingly moderate winds, even atop the crest.
