More detailed information about the snowpack:

Took a look at accessing Mono Jim peak from Convict lk this morning, but after a long season of a lot of hiking and thrashing, I just didn’t feel like putting in another adventure day today. Super thin conditions, do able for sure, but the skis would likely take a beating and I just got a great tune from John at Mammoth mountaineering!

Switched gears to heading up the Sherwins from the propane tanks.  There were multiple groups visible on the ridgeline, tracks visible on every major ski line and also some Paragliders taking flight this morning. Not a human triggered avalanche in sight.

A bit warm and muggy this morning, but overcast conditions increased by mid-morning and light snowfall started around 11am. Lots of new snow still clinging to the trees and surface conditions in the northerly facing woods was still wintry and soft. No signs of instability observed today. There is actually some decent size cornices on the Sherwin ridge for really the first time this season over the main Avy path and Mammoth Rock area.

Boot Pen 35cm Ski Pen 25cm

HS: 145cm

HNS: 45cm F-F+

Melt freeze crusts at 45cm below surface and 50cm below surface

CT21 x2 @ 15cm below surface on new snow hardness change (no results at all on melt-freeze crusts)

ECTX (No results)

PST  50/100 end   --   I pulled the saw underneath the lower melt/freeze crust( 50cm below the surface) through a thin 6cm layer of faceted snow beneath the crust. The whole column of snow collapsed when I reached 50cm through the 100cm block. The new snow column was resistant to being pulled off, and took moderate force to do so. The block did not slide  under its own weight. SEE VIDEO

Very soft, consistent, surface conditions with just a kiss of temp crust in lower low angle elevations.
