Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

MINI MORRISON OBS--While scouting along the 395 corridor I saw a respectable crown on the north face of Mini Morrison Pk ~10000ft elevation above Old Man’s Bowl in the Convict Lk area. It looked to be upwards of 2ft in depth and spanned at least 100ft if not more in width. Was not able to get a picture, saw through binoculars.

CHICKEN WING OBS---Toured up Chicken Wing leaving the trailhead at 1100am. It was warm 34F, and the trees in the flats were raining and shedding snow rapidly. Things cooled off as I got in the shade of the northeasterly main slope of Chicken Wing. There was widespread surface hoar throughout the whole zone except where direct sun was cooking it down.  On the upper slopes the surface hoar was around 1-2mm in size and was it sparkling. Snow depths averaged from 80 to 100cm and the snowpack is settling rapidly. Dead calm within the trees and a light northerly breeze on top of the hill at 1400. Sticking to shaded terrain on the way down, again, coverage was quite good and snow surface quality fantastic where things hadn’t heated up. Stomped on some wind drifted features near the top and was not able to get anything to budge or even crack.  Did not observe any other signs of instability in the area.

Profile showed a right-side up pack.

Lots of wind effect visible on White wing. The June Lake area is starting to look pretty good with gullies and depressions starting to fill in.
