More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured up from Convict Lake to N-facing trees next to the Hippy Chutes.  Left the car at 0925.  Mostly clear skies east of 395 but foggy west of the highway and light graupel was falling as we left the TH.  4" new snow overlying melt freeze snow at the trailhead was light and dry on N slopes and already moistening in the flats.  There was still snow on the trees at the trailhead and even up in the hippy trees, though we did see plenty of evidence of S/SW wind effect up higher.  Winds were surprisingly light past Tobacco Flat and skies were partly clear, but there was wind transport of snow off ridgelines up higher.  Numerous mid-storm point releases observed starting from rock on E and NE aspects.  At 9885' on a NW aspect, somewhat wind sheltered by trees, I measured almost 10" of new snow on top of what may have been rounding facets.  At 1400, winds picked up and light precip started.  Skiing in the trees and even in more open N slopes around 10000' was on excellent fast powder, though we were kicking off rollerballs even on shallow N faces.  The snow was enjoyable all the way down to 8150' - skiing down from Tobacco Flat was a bit chunky and thick.  We stayed mostly on low-angle slopes except for one short chute of maybe 33-35 degrees and experienced no signs of instability.
