Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Made first tracks in Rock Creek today just after snowplow finished clearing the road. Observed several small sluffs on east-facing slopes above the road, the largest (photo) came down onto the road. Dug a hasty pit in a more sheltered area further up the road on a slope with similar angle/aspect. Snow depth 60cm: ~5cm soft slab on top, ~35cm F down to ~5cm 1F crust, ~10cm F down to 3cm 1F crust, 2cm faceted crystals (photo) at ground level. Ground level crystals were not the loose dry sugar snow of a couple weeks ago but seemed to be somewhat bonded.
