Comments: Ascended the slopes on the northeastern shoulder of Dunderberg to treeline + until the snow became too patchy. Assessing how the warm temperatures are affecting sheltered Northerly slopes. Mixed melt/freeze breakable crust from ~9500' - ~10200'. Crust maturity depended on slope steepness, sun exposure, and elevation. Only well-shaded, open, steeper, northerly aspects have escaped the brutal warm/dry spell remain somewhat soft but it's hard to find long consistent lines of soft facets. Possibly look for snow (where present) on southerly aspects for more consistent snow conditions. Air temperature varied from 4c (9500', NE aspect, sheltered tress) to 1c. (10700', NE, isolated islands of trees) Snow temps @ 20 cm still cool ( -1 to -5). Stability tests mixed from very easy (upper wind slab failed on isolation) to moderate, consistently at 56 & 65 cm (from bottom), mostly planer trending toward irregular. Extended column test – ECT(N,ish) 13, @ 65cm, planer failure for half the column, stepped down to 57cm, both Q2. This is the weakest result I've seen recently for these lingering weaknesses. A weakness looking for a heavy load? 5 Stability Tests: CT14 Q2 64cm Failed @ 56 simultaneously, both Q2(-) CT14 Q3 56cm ECTP13 Q2 65cm Failed at 57 cm (from surface) for half the column, stepping down to 63 cm for the remainder, Q2-. CT14 Q2 56cm CTV Q3 65cm. Stability tests hint at a slow weakening of the mid-pack.
