Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Did not observe any recent avalance activity or signs of instability on the tour up Horse creek to the Matterhorn and the ski dreams slope. There had been a bit of roller ball activity and very small wet loose pt releases on west and south aspects within the canyon from days previous. There was evidence of a large slab that likely released during the 1/16-17 storm on the eastern aspect of the cirque that sits under the Matterhorn proper.  Good surface conditons in shady aspects with 20-30cm of windpacked powder that provided good soft turns. A bit of wind affect in areas, but for the most part the wind skin that had developed was around 5cm in depth and was still manageable to ski through. The top 400 vertical of Ski Dreams was firm, but edgeable.

Snowpit at 11313ft -41slope- N aspect showed solid surface conditions. Dug down to 150cm, stuck the probe through the bottom of the the pit and still did not hit ground. So snowpack up there is deeper than 400cm atleast where I dug, dead center of the main slope. I did fill it in as best as possible. Got  hard results on CT's at hardness changes between upper windpack layers and no result (ECTX) with an ECT. (see snowprofile attached) Checked out steeper and windloaded terrain in the upper and mid drainage and was not able to cut any snow loose with ski cutting or stomping on windloaded areas. There was a mountaineering course practicing skills in lower terrain beneath the Matterhorn, and they also did not find any weak layers within their snowpit with stability tests.

More detailed information about the weather:

Quite a warm day even in the shade at 11,300ft it was above freezing at 1230pm. Very light breeze, but nearly dead calm most of the day. A high haze kept the solar input from getting to intense this afternoon.
