Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Started our tour at Twin Lakes parking. No cracking, whumping or recent avalanche activity noted during this tour. Air temp in parking lot at 0900, 6 degrees Celcius. Mostly (>75%) cloudy, no wind.

Skinned to Sky Meadows via existing skin track. Some areas of surface hoar noted in open areas around Cold Water Campground. Below tree line, solar aspects showed signs of melting from yesterday, otherwise soft snow in the trees. Ski penetration 20cm. Continued up a broad, low angle bowl between Blue Crag and Ship's Prow. Snow was wind affected above tree line, with old skin track mostly covered by recent (Friday night?) winds. Ski penetration 10-20cm with areas of firm wind board. Moderate upslope and cross slope winds with surface snow transportation noted above tree line.

Stopped at 11,000 ft to dig a pit. NE aspect, approx. 30 degree slope. Air temp at 1230, 1 degree Celcius. Total snow depth=125cm.

125 cm (surface)-120cm, pencil hard wind board with small facets underneath.

120-90 cm, pencil hard

90-75 cm, 1 finger.

75cm-ground, pencil minus

Variable, but mostly soft, fun snow on the descent. Conintued our tour to Crag Couloir, climbing to 10,600 ft before turning around due to exposed rocks. Mostly soft snow in the couloir and on the fan below with several early season obstacles.
