Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

From Aspendell, skinned up the road to North Lake today. There was not enough snow to venture off the road yet, but the road does offer some great crosscountry skiing right now.

There was a warm breeze from the southwest and at 1100am at North Lake ~9300ft it was 40degF. Overcast skies persisted over the crest while mostly clear skies and sunshine beemed over Bishop and the Owens Valley.

In a sheltered area at 9200ft elevation I found 45cm of total snow.

The snowpack is rapidly settling with Ski Pen=10cm and Boot Pen=40cm

I tried stomping on some slightly deeper wind deposits adjacent to small cliffs and could not get anything to budge or collapse. I did not observe any natural avalanches in the area, as most adjacent peaks looked pretty wind stripped and very shallow. Gullies looked to harbor the most snow which averaged around a foot in depth.

A beautiful day, but it will take quite a bit more snow to open up some backcountry riding in the lower Bishop Creek drainages.
