Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Booted and then toured up the lower flanks of Bishop Bowl to check on the snowpack in the Bishop Creek area. We booted up the southeast facing moraine above Aspendell due to thin snow coverage, lots of exposed tops of sage here still.  Above 9200 feet, we were able to put on the skins, coverage still thin and bushy. Many areas of bare ground on wind exposed ridges.

We continued to 10.200 feet on NE facing slopes. Snow depth here ranged from 30-80 cm. Ski penetration on these slopes, 10-15cm.  Though in more wind exposed areas, ski penetration=0cm on supportable wind board. Many early season obstacles.

Wind board 5-8 cm thick with faceted, sugary snow below wind board to the ground. No cracking, whumping or propagating cracks seen. Snow on all slopes during this tour were heavily affected by recent winds, including treed areas on NE facing slopes.
