Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Toured up to the southeastern ridge of Bishop Bowl, stopping at about 10,600'.  Snow on the moraine was shallow, 30-50 cm, a little soft snow on sun crust and hollow underneath with lots of brush.  Snow depths on the run above the moraine (9,200-10,600) were generally ranged 70-130 cm with a soft hollow basal layer, with some blown off rocky patches and sastrugi near the ridge.  Mild temperatures: +6.5 C at 1300 hrs at 10,600'.  Light north winds where we were, but occasionally snow was blowing of the ridges at higher elevations.  No collapsing, no cracking.  Skiing was good soft snow from the ridge to the top of the moraine and mostly crust with some windboard on the moraine.
