Big Pine Creek

Skiing/Snowboarding
Location:
South face

Observations

Skied the south face of Split mountain around 3pm. Snow was quite stable on the face with boot penetration rarely exceeding ankle depth. The last 200 feet was a stark difference with a few steps deeper than waist depth. The face refroze for our descent down to around 11k. With excellent skiing back to the creek crossing after that.
Observations on the way in. We saw plenty of old WL slides off of the SE to E aspects of Tinemaha as large as R4/D4. Particularly at the entrance to the red mountain creek. The SE and S aspect of split had a few D2s & D3s as well. The N couloir of Cardinal mountain had significant glide cracks at the entrance.
