Observations

We skied into the lakes basin to find soft snow and explore terrain. The Lake Mary Road and Tamarack XC center had been closed this week so we toured from Mill City. When we arrived in the basin itself we were pleasantly surprised to find few tracks. The main thing of note was the old avalanche crowns that were widespread along the crest. There have been a lot of reports highlighting persistent slabs from outside the Mammoth area, but not as many from the crest itself. This may have been due to access to the Lakes Basin, but also that area gets a lot of snow and refills the slabs making them harder to see.

Photos are attached to show the pattern of the slabs. Many were near the crest, but the pattern and extent suggests something more than windslab.
