Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Sierra Mountain Center AIARE Level 1 Course toured NW of Mammoth Ski Area to make field observations and check for presence of forecasted wind slab atop persistent faceted crystals. Despite warm (3 deg C) minimum overnight lows at 8800', sheltered N facing slopes were still holding dry near surface facets until midday warming moistened these facets. Sun affected slopes had a 2.5cm crust sitting on top facets, failing easily under hand shears.

On an exposed NNW facing ridgetop at 9700', our group found a 1F+ layer sitting on top of F hard facets, and with CT12 SP, CT22 SP, and RB5 MB SP results, all down 25cm failing on the faceted interface.
