Eastside locals and folks from afar converged on March 5th at
June Mountain Ski Area for a crack-of-dawn start to the first
ever Eastern Sierra winter mountaineering race. The course for
the Race division, both Men and Women, contained approximately
4,700' of climbing on June Mountain over nearly 10mi. of race
course. Competitors in the Recreational category climbed about
2,800' over 5mi.
The
event was a huge success with almost 40 competitors attending.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the Eastern Sierra Avalanche
Center. We really want to thank Carl Williams and June Mountain
Ski Area for their extra effort in helping to support the event
(including opening the lifts at 3am!!) We look forward to next
year's race!
